FAQ's

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions about plastic surgery in Boca Raton. If you have a question and do not see it answered here, please contact us. We’ll answer your question and then post it here for others to see.

» What is discussed during the initial consultation?

In aesthetic plastic surgery, the relationship and communication between surgeon and patient is very personal and extremely important. Each person is different and each has a different view of aesthetics and themselves. We will discuss what areas you would like to change and then make recommendations about the most appropriate procedures and treatments. We will answer any and all questions. You will meet with our personal care coordinator who will give you an exact quote for the price of surgery and schedule a surgery date. For patients who are travelling from out of town, Dr. Cabrera can arrange a consultation via Skype.

» Where will the surgery take place?

We have four fully accredited operating rooms and an adjoining over-night recovery suite. You will be attended to round-the-clock by a registered nurse and experienced staff dedicated to your comfort and personal care.

» What type of anesthesia is used?

The type of anesthesia used depends on the surgical procedure being performed and individual patient preference. Local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia may be used to ensure minimum discomfort. Anesthesia is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. In some procedures, the injection of a numbing solution to the area being treated is all that is necessary.

» What is the recovery from plastic surgery like?

Each patient will react differently, some may experience post-operative pain or discomfort within the first few days after surgery. Appropriate pain medications are prescribed to alleviate pain and minimize discomfort. We are available for advice and care and follow-up appointments are conveniently scheduled to ensure a smooth and safe recovery.

» How long is the recuperative period and when can I return to work?

Recuperation after plastic surgery depends on the extent of the procedure performed and the person’s individual healing process. It is generally advisable to refrain from strenuous activities while stitched and dressings are still in place. In most cases, Dr. Rafael Carbrera’s patients can resume light activities within a few days.

» When can I resume exercise?

The resumption of regular exercise varies based on the type of operation. Vigorous activities such as jogging, weight-lifting and contact sports should be avoided for 2-3 weeks after a procedure to decrease the risk of bleeding, swelling and bruising. Slow walking can provide a healthy alternative until resumption of a normal exercise routine.

» Will there be scarring question?

Every effort is made to make incisions as small and inconspicuous as possible. During breast augmentation, incisions can be made in the armpit where they are not visible. Other procedures such as tummy tuck are slightly more noticeable. Dr. Cabrera MD ensures scars from most procedures are minimal and over time tend to become less noticeable.

» How long do the results last?

The results of most procedures are permanent and generally obtained between 4 weeks and several months following surgery. Over time, some of Dr. Cabrera’s patients request additional procedures or surgery to achieve desired results.
