Turn Back the Clock on Aging Hands: Your Guide to Hand Rejuvenation Treatments

Turn Back the Clock on Aging Hands: Your Guide to Hand Rejuvenation Treatments

As medical aesthetics advances, we’re getting better and better at defying time. From cosmetic injectables like Botox® to minimal downtime procedures like TheSmarterLift™, you have seemingly countless ways to turn back the clock for your face.

Your face isn’t the only place that shows the signs of aging, though. You might notice unwelcome changes in another highly visible part of your body: the backs of your hands.

That’s why Rafael C. Cabrera, MD, FACS, specifically offers hand rejuvenation at Plastic Surgery Specialists of Boca Raton. If you think your hands are aging you, Dr. Cabrera has effective treatments to help you address the problems you’re seeing.

How hand rejuvenation works

Time is hard on your hands. As you get older, your skin loses volume and elasticity. On top of that, hands tend to see a lot of sun. Unless you regularly wear gloves, all of that exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light can contribute to the development of age spots.

However your hands are aging, Dr. Cabrera can help. He has a suite of solutions to give your hands what they need.

For volume loss: fillers

Do the backs of your hands look sunken or hollow? Can you see the shape of your veins? If so, fillers can help. As the name suggests, they replenish volume where you’ve lost it through the years, especially as the loss of fat beneath your skin occurs with aging.

Dr. Cabrera applies the same fillers that have long been used to safely add volume to the face, such as Restylane® and RADIESSE®, and you notice an immediate difference in your hands.

For age spots: laser treatments

When Dr. Cabrera uses an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment on the skin of your hands, it encourages the pigment in your age spots to break up. IPL releases multiple wavelengths of light into your skin, and the pigment in your age spots absorbs that light energy, heating it to the point that it’s destroyed and those spots are less visible.

What to expect with hand rejuvenation

Dr. Cabrera can apply both fillers and IPL treatment at the same appointment. All together, the process usually takes about 40 minutes.

We’ve designed hand rejuvenation to be as comfortable as possible for you. When Dr. Cabrera applies the fillers, it should feel like nothing more than a quick pinch. During IPL, you might feel a warming sensation or like a rubber band is being snapped against your skin. Dr. Cabrera can apply a topical numbing cream if you find the treatment overly uncomfortable.

Unlike some other procedures, there’s no downtime requirement with our hand rejuvenation treatments. You can continue on with your usual activities right after your appointment.

As time marches on, you don’t want to focus all of your attention on your face, only to have your hands give you away. To explore hand rejuvenation for yourself, call our team in Boca Raton, Florida, today.
